Consumer brand fundraising has gone through a brutal correction. The VC darlings of the last cycle, valued on GMV growth and brand 'vibes', are now either profitable, sold to roll-ups, or quietly winding down. Capital is back in the category but on completely different terms.
Investors today underwrite contribution profit per cohort, channel-level CAC discipline, repeat rate by SKU and the working capital it takes to fund growth. Strategic CPG corporates, retailer private-label arms, brand-focused growth equity and a smaller pool of consumer VCs all play in the category, each with their own diligence priorities. Debt and inventory financing increasingly sit alongside equity in any meaningful raise.
