Fractional CFO services in New York

New York is the world's most active fintech hub and the largest tech ecosystem in the United States by deal volume. The city has produced category-defining companies across fintech, adtech, SaaS and consumer - Datadog, MongoDB, Plaid, DoubleVerify, Etsy, Stash, Peloton and Compass among the most prominent.

Annual venture deployment regularly exceeds $30B, with Flatiron, Hudson Yards and the Brooklyn Navy Yard anchoring the three distinct innovation clusters.

We work with New York-based startups from seed to Series B+, supporting them on fundraise prep, financial modelling, board packs, cap table management, investor reporting and runway management.

New York startup ecosystem

What makes New York's startup ecosystem distinct - sector concentrations, innovation clusters and the talent pipeline that feeds the city's venture scene.

Largest tech ecosystem in the US by capital deployed

New York consistently ranks first or second globally for venture deal volume, with over $30B deployed annually across seed through growth stages. The city is home to 30+ unicorns including Datadog, MongoDB, Plaid, DoubleVerify and Ramp, spanning fintech, enterprise SaaS and consumer.

Fintech and B2B SaaS are the dominant verticals

New York is the world's most active fintech hub - Plaid, Stash, Ramp, Brex (NY office) and Oscar Health are all headquartered or scaled here. B2B SaaS is equally dominant: Datadog, MongoDB, Compass, DoubleVerify and Etsy have all IPO'd from NYC. Adtech, proptech and consumer round out the city's sector map.

Three distinct innovation clusters

Flatiron and Silicon Alley (23rd–34th Streets) is the historic startup core - dense with SaaS, adtech and consumer. Hudson Yards hosts larger-scale tech and financial services innovation. The Brooklyn Navy Yard and Industry City anchor the city's hardware, climatetech and manufacturing-adjacent startup base.

Finance, engineering and media talent pipeline

Columbia, NYU Stern, Cornell Tech (Roosevelt Island) and The New School feed engineering, computer science and design graduates directly into the startup ecosystem. The city's Wall Street and consulting base supplies a deep secondary pipeline of senior finance, operations and strategy talent that no other US tech city can match.

Accelerators and angel networks active in New York

New York has the densest accelerator landscape in the US outside of Silicon Valley. These are the programmes most active with venture-backed founders at pre-seed and seed.

ERA (Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator)

ERA is New York's oldest and most active seed accelerator, founded in 2011. Runs two cohorts per year across B2B SaaS, fintech, consumer and AI. Invests $100k for 7% equity and provides office space in Midtown. Portfolio includes Maker's Row, Nestio and HireVue.

Techstars NYC

Techstars NYC is the New York cohort of the global Techstars network. Sector-agnostic with a strong fintech and enterprise SaaS track record. Standard $120k investment with a 13-week mentor-led programme. Backed by a network of 10,000+ mentors.

Grand Central Tech

Grand Central Tech is a free, equity-free 12-month accelerator based in Midtown Manhattan, backed by RXR Realty. Targets post-revenue B2B companies. Alumni include CB Insights, Splash and Avetta. Strong corporate-partnership track record with Fortune 500 pilot programmes.

MassChallenge New York

MassChallenge NY is the New York programme of the global no-equity accelerator network. Runs an annual cohort with access to $1M+ in cash awards and deep mentor networks. Strong in fintech, healthtech and climate. No equity taken - unusual for a programme of its scale.

AlleyCorp

AlleyCorp is a New York-based venture studio and fund founded by Kevin Ryan (DoubleClick, Gilt, MongoDB, Business Insider). Builds and backs companies from inception - combining startup studio and early-stage VC. Portfolio includes MongoDB, Business Insider, Zola and Nomad Health.

Newlab

Newlab is based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and focuses on deep-tech, climatetech and advanced manufacturing. Hosts 100+ startups on-site with access to prototyping labs, materials science equipment and a corporate innovation programme. Portfolio includes Boaz Energy, Infinite Machine and Bia Power.

New York startup accountants vs Flow fractional CFO

Most New York startups work with a CPA firm for tax, payroll and audit. That role is essential - but it is not the same as having a fractional CFO.

New York startup accountants

Federal and state tax, payroll, audit and compliance. The firms most used by New York venture-backed startups.

  • Anchin

New York's most prominent startup-focused CPA firm, with a dedicated technology and emerging-growth practice serving fintech, healthtech and media IT companies from seed through pre-IPO.

  • Marcum

Top-20 US firm with a large New York presence. Strong audit and assurance practice covering SEC compliance and VC-backed companies through growth and exit.

  • CohnReznick

Top-15 US firm with deep New York roots and a dedicated technology industry group serving venture-backed and PE-backed companies at Series A and beyond.

  • EisnerAmper

Large New York-headquartered firm with a dedicated startup and emerging-growth practice. Known for SALT expertise and serving mid-market companies that have outgrown boutique firms.

  • Friedman LLP (now Marcum)

Merged into Marcum in 2022, having built a strong NYC reputation in venture-backed tech, real estate and financial services. The team and client base remain active under the Marcum umbrella.

Flow fractional CFO

Financial modelling, FP&A and fundraise prep. We work alongside your accountant - not instead of them.

  • Builds the financial model - revenue assumptions, headcount, unit economics, runway.
  • Sets up the monthly FP&A cycle: budget, forecast vs actual, variance analysis.
  • Puts together the monthly board pack - P&L, cash, KPIs and forward outlook.
  • Prepares the fundraise: investor model, deck financials, data room and diligence prep.
  • Keeps the cap table tidy and handles stock option grants and 409A valuations.
  • Reports on the KPIs that move the business - ARR, gross margin, CAC payback, retention.
  • Pressure tests hiring, pricing and big spend decisions against the model before the founder commits.
  • Sits in board meetings and is embedded week-to-week, not just engaged annually for compliance.

Simple pricing

No hidden costs, no complicated long-term contracts. We understand how important flexibility is for New York startups.
