Fractional CFO services in Copenhagen

Copenhagen's startup ecosystem grew 31% between 2024 and 2025 and is now ranked Europe's third-largest AI hub, with 290 high-momentum startups that have collectively raised over $6.1 billion.

Trustpilot, Pleo ($470M+ raised), Tradeshift, Lunar and Too Good To Go are the city's most capitalised recent outcomes - a spread across SaaS, fintech, sustainability and consumer that reflects Copenhagen's unusually broad sector depth for a city of its size.

We work with Copenhagen-based startups from seed to Series B+, supporting them on financial modelling, board packs, fundraise prep, unit economics and equity/option grants.

Copenhagen startup ecosystem

What makes Copenhagen's startup ecosystem distinct - its investor depth, sector clusters, geography and the talent pipeline that feeds the city's venture-backed companies.

Nordic hub with outsized fintech and climate-tech output

Copenhagen is the most productive startup city in the Nordic region by capital deployed per capita. Pleo has reshaped B2B spend management across Europe; Lunar built a neobank on Danish open-banking rails; Too Good To Go turned food waste into a €1.2B-valued consumer platform. The city's fintech cluster benefits from Finanstilsynet's responsive regulatory posture and Denmark's near-total card-payment infrastructure.

Vesterbro, Carlsberg Byen and Refshaleøen as the physical clusters

Vesterbro - particularly the Meatpacking District and Iværksætterhuset - houses the densest concentration of early-stage tech companies. Carlsberg Byen, the 30-hectare urban regeneration project, is adding significant co-working and scale-up space. Refshaleøen, the former shipyard island, is the city's climate-tech and hardware hub, home to Rainmaking Loft and several deep-tech workshops.

DTU and Copenhagen Business School as the talent anchor

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Kgs. Lyngby produces one of the highest per-capita outputs of engineering and computer science graduates in Europe. Copenhagen Business School and the University of Copenhagen add commercial and life-sciences depth. The city's strong social safety net and parental leave culture attract international talent at a rate that outperforms most European startup cities of comparable size.

Deep Nordic VC network with international reach

Heartcore Capital, byFounders and Sunstone Capital are the three most active Copenhagen-headquartered VCs, all with multi-fund track records and portfolio companies at Series C+. Northcap and PreSeed Ventures are the most active at pre-seed. The city's founders include Pleo's Jeppe Rindom and Tradeshift's Christian Lanng, both of whom are active as angels and fund LPs.

Accelerators and angel networks active in Copenhagen

Copenhagen's accelerator scene spans corporate-backed programmes, Nordic-focused seed funds and specialist climate and health incubators. These are the most active programmes Copenhagen-based founders engage with at pre-seed and seed.

Rainmaking

Rainmaking is the Copenhagen-founded corporate venture and startup-building platform operating globally. Its Rainmaking Loft co-working and acceleration hub on Refshaleøen is a physical anchor for the city's hardware, climate-tech and deeptech community. Rainmaking's corporate innovation work spans Maersk, DFDS and others.

Founders (formerly Founders House)

Founders is Copenhagen's central startup hub and seed fund, providing co-working, community and early-stage capital to pre-seed and seed founders. Has been the first institutional home for several notable Danish technology companies.

Accelerace

Accelerace is Denmark's leading early-stage accelerator, backed by the Danish state-owned investment fund Vækstfonden. Runs cohort-based programmes across B2B SaaS, health and cleantech with investment tickets up to DKK 500,000 alongside programme support.

Heartcore Capital

Heartcore Capital is Copenhagen-headquartered and one of the Nordics' most active consumer and SaaS seed and Series A investors, with fund IV closed in 2023. Portfolio includes Too Good To Go, Pleo and Vivino. Particularly influential as a first institutional conviction signal for Copenhagen founders.

byFounders

byFounders is a Copenhagen-based seed fund backed by Nordic operator-founders including Zendesk co-founder Mikkel Svane and Trustpilot co-founder Jesper Buch. Writes €500k–€2M tickets across the Nordics and Baltics, with a strong operator network available to portfolio companies.

Plug and Play Copenhagen

Plug and Play Copenhagen is the Danish cohort of the global Plug and Play accelerator network, focused on connecting early-stage startups with Danish corporate partners including Grundfos, Novo Nordisk Foundation and NRGI. Sector focus includes health, sustainability and supply chain.

Copenhagen startup accountants vs Flow fractional CFO

Most Copenhagen startups work with a statsautoriseret revisor or an accounting firm for årsregnskab filings, moms and selskabsskat under Danish GAAP (ÅRL). That compliance work is mandatory - but it does not replace a fractional CFO.

Copenhagen startup accountants

Årsregnskab, moms, selskabsskat and Danish GAAP. The firms most-used by Copenhagen venture-backed startups.

  • BDO Denmark

One of Denmark's largest audit and advisory firms, with Copenhagen as its primary office. Covers statutory audit, tax and growth-company advisory for Danish venture-backed startups.

  • Beierholm

Danish mid-market statsautoriseret revisionspartnerselskab with a strong SME and growth-company client base. Well regarded for practical startup tax structuring.

  • Deloitte Denmark

Big Four coverage for Series B+ Copenhagen startups or those approaching an IFRS conversion ahead of an international financing round.

  • PwC Denmark

PwC's Copenhagen practice has a dedicated startup and growth-company team, with particular depth in R&D tax credits and M&A due diligence for Danish tech companies.

  • Inforevision

Copenhagen-based mid-market accounting and audit firm well-known for serving Danish SMEs and early-stage tech companies on combined accounting and advisory mandates.

Flow fractional CFO

Financial modelling, FP&A and fundraise prep in DKK. We work alongside your revisor - not instead of them.

  • Builds the financial model - revenue assumptions, headcount, unit economics, runway in DKK.
  • Sets up the monthly FP&A cycle: budget, forecast vs actual, variance analysis.
  • Puts together the monthly board pack - P&L, cash, KPIs and forward outlook.
  • Prepares the fundraise: investor model, deck financials, data room and diligence prep.
  • Keeps the cap table tidy and handles option pool structuring under Danish company law.
  • Reports on the KPIs that move the business - ARR, gross margin, CAC payback, retention.
  • Pressure tests hiring, pricing and big spend decisions against the model before the founder commits.
  • Sits in board meetings and is embedded week-to-week, not just engaged annually for compliance.

Simple pricing

No hidden costs, no complicated long-term contracts. We understand how important flexibility is for Copenhagen startups.
