Fractional CFO services in Austin
Austin has become the most significant tech migration destination in the US, with Tesla's global HQ, Oracle's North American HQ, X (formerly Twitter), Indeed and Apple's $1bn campus all relocating or expanding here between 2020 and 2023.
Texas has no state income tax and no corporate income tax, making the effective after-tax economics for founders and senior employees meaningfully different from California - a structural advantage that has accelerated the city's ecosystem from a regional hub to a nationally significant one in under a decade.
We work with Austin-based startups from seed to Series B+, supporting them on fundraise prep, financial modelling, unit economics, pricing decisions, cap table management and board packs.

Austin startup ecosystem
The US's leading corporate relocation destination
Austin added Tesla, Oracle, X, Indeed, HP Inc. and scores of mid-market tech companies between 2018 and 2024, creating a density of corporate HQ relationships that gives Austin-based enterprise startups an unusually short path to their first large customer. Capital Factory has been the most active seed investor in Texas every year since 2010, per Pitchbook.
Enterprise SaaS, HR-tech, CPG and emerging climate-tech anchors
Bumble, Outdoorsy, Atmosphere TV, Workrise and OJO Labs are Austin-born unicorns and near-unicorns. The Bumble IPO in 2021 signalled Austin's consumer-tech maturity; Workrise's $2.9bn valuation at its 2022 peak validated the industrial and energy-workforce SaaS thesis unique to Texas. SKU has produced multiple national CPG breakout brands - Kendra Scott and Waterloo Sparkling Water among the most recognised.
The Domain, East Austin and Downtown clusters
The Domain in North Austin is the corporate HQ and later-stage tech corridor - Apple's campus, Indeed's headquarters and a cluster of scale-ups sit here. East Austin is the early-stage, founder-community and creative-industry hub, anchored by Capital Factory's main space on Congress Avenue. The 2nd Street District downtown hosts the accelerator and co-working infrastructure used by pre-seed and seed companies.
Engineering talent from UT Austin and the relocation wave
UT Austin's Cockrell School of Engineering and McCombs School of Business are the primary feeders. The post-2020 relocation wave brought thousands of experienced engineers and operators from San Francisco, New York and Seattle - creating a secondary talent pool of ex-Apple, ex-Tesla and ex-Oracle senior hires for Series A and B companies.
Accelerators and angel networks active in Austin
Austin's accelerator landscape is anchored by Capital Factory and complemented by sector-specific programmes for CPG, deep tech and social-impact founders. These are the most active programmes founders consider when starting or scaling in the city.
Capital Factory
Capital Factory is the most active seed investor in Texas by number of deals, taking just 1% equity in exchange for a programme that connects founders to its 200+ mentor network, co-working space on Congress Avenue and its Texas-wide investor community. Portfolio companies have collectively raised over $1bn.
SKU
SKU is Austin's specialist CPG accelerator, founded in 2011, focused on consumer product startups in food, beverage, personal care and home. Alumni include Waterloo Sparkling Water, Sun Bum and Siete Family Foods. SKU provides retail channel introductions, mentor networks and institutional connections - a rare vertical-specific programme nationally.
MassChallenge Texas
MassChallenge Texas is the Austin chapter of MassChallenge's global network - a zero-equity, cash-prize accelerator that has supported 180+ Texas startups since 2017. Sector-agnostic with particular strength in energy, healthtech and enterprise software, leveraging Austin's corporate HQ density for pilot opportunities.
Austin Technology Incubator (ATI)
Austin Technology Incubator is the deep-tech commercialisation programme affiliated with UT Austin, founded in 1989 and the longest continuously operating technology incubator in the US. ATI takes no equity and provides commercialisation support across healthcare, energy, sustainability and food-agtech - sectors with strong UT research foundations.
DivInc
DivInc is an Austin-based equity-free accelerator focused on underrepresented founders, with a 12-week programme providing mentorship, investor access and go-to-market support. Co-founded in 2016 by Dana Callender and Preston L. James, DivInc has built one of the strongest diverse-founder networks in Texas.
Austin startup accountants vs Flow fractional CFO
Most Austin startups work with a CPA firm for federal tax, Texas franchise tax, Delaware filings and payroll. That role is essential - but it does not replace a fractional CFO.
Tax compliance, Texas franchise tax, audit and payroll. The firms most used by Austin venture-backed startups.
- Maxwell Locke & Ritter
The largest independently owned accounting firm in Central Texas, headquartered in downtown Austin. Provides tax, audit, due diligence and advisory services to growth-stage companies, consistently ranked in Accounting Today's top mid-sized firms nationally.
- ATKG

- PMB (PMB Helin Donovan)

- Padgett Stratemann (now BDO Texas)
San Antonio-headquartered firm now operating within BDO, providing tax, audit and advisory services to mid-market and growth-stage Texas companies including venture-backed tech.

Financial modelling, FP&A and fundraise prep. We work alongside your accountant - not instead of them.
- Builds the financial model - revenue assumptions, headcount, unit economics, runway.
- Sets up the monthly FP&A cycle: budget, forecast vs actual, variance analysis.
- Puts together the monthly board pack - P&L, cash, KPIs and forward outlook.
- Prepares the fundraise: investor model, deck financials, data room and diligence prep.
- Keeps the cap table tidy and handles 409A valuations and stock option grants.
- Reports on the KPIs that move the business - ARR, gross margin, CAC payback, retention.
- Pressure tests hiring, pricing and big spend decisions against the model before the founder commits.
- Sits in board meetings and is embedded week-to-week, not just engaged annually for compliance.
